The Bucs defense has taken a lot of pride in recent years in their ability to contain Atlanta’s Michael Vick. They probably won’t be as boastful after Sunday’s effort, but the way the team managed to become a remarkable 7-3 probably says more about where the it’s going than where it’s been.
Tampa Bay, winning with offense? It sounds bizarre, but so does the notion of the Bucs driving the length of the field against Atlanta’s defense to win on the road.
But that’s what happened, the future of the Bucs on full display in the Georgia Dome. Chris Simms continues to improve and show confidence in crucial situations, and if Cadillac Williams is back to being Cadillac full-time, these two could grow old together.
Old, actually, is how the Bucs defense looked after the first quarter, trying to contain Vick and his largely anonymous receivers. Jon Gruden can’t be proud of the 304 passing yards his secondary surrendered, but you can’t blame him if thoughts of his young backfield (and being 7-3) keep him smirking.
But that smirk won’t be that of one who got away with something. Even if the Falcons’ desultory showing against Green Bay last week caught attention league-wide for its sloppiness, it’s doubtful anyone can say the Bucs didn’t deserve this victory.

Favre a Buc?
Green Bay appears to be tearing down, and rebuilding for the future. Favre isn’t interested in playing QB for a new coach. Gruden has a history with Favre. Mississippi is a lot closer to Tampa, than Green Bay. Griese due a big cap number next season, but isn’t anywhere near the QB Favre is...even at this stage of Favre’s career. Who better for Simms to learn even more from? Favre throwing to Clayton, Galloway, Smith and Shepherd...while Cadillac runs wild through a defense looking to shut down Brett...Just thought I’d throw it out there…

Its like a nightmare.this is a team with the arrow pointing up.you may think you have a chance, but if you have the courage to be honest, you know the bucks are in for a solid CHICAGO STYLE BEATING.You think your defense has speed,or flows to the ball? See the real deal sunday.Had enough of hurricans? Here comes a blizard from up north.Bet your your money on the Bears. With your winnings, perhaps you can buy some new teeth.SEE YA.

A hundred points in 3 games… I’m hoping either Dexter Jackson or Will Allen will be back for the Bears. I think this just goes to show how important these safeties are.
Now that Simms has earned the title of an NFL QB, I’m sure the Bucs will score 1 or 2 Offensive TDs against the Bears. However, we neeed Monte Kiffin to bring a full house to defang these bear fans. They need to be reminded that this is Tampa Bay and we know DEFENSE !!!

Yes, the boys are 7-3, but fellow fans lets keep it real. They’re an inconclusive replay, and a Warrick Dunn “forced” fumble away from being 5-5. Simms and CO. on offense are starting to get it, but the fortunes of this team will be determined by Rice, Hovan, McFarland and Spires. 98’, 03’ and 04’ remember those seasons?...That’s right, the Bucs missed out on the playoffs. Know why?
Those 3 seasons represented the worst performance (QB pressures and sacks)by Bucs front four during the Kiffin era. We need the defense to return to form, and in case they forgot how to play, they’ll be reminded this weekend. Hopefully, pride will empower our once proud “D” to show up against Da’ Bears....

It was a great win for Tampa Bay! I think the bucs D will pick it up this weekend against the not much offense bears. Score - bucs 35 & bears 6
GO BUCS!

7-3 remarkable. Considering the defense is only good the first 5 minutes of the games. Ohh, and the last 2 minutes. At least Brooks is. Now all we have to do is play Division leading Chicago, New England and Carolina. Is there any doubt that we can beat those teams. Not a problem as long as the defense shows up for the whole games. Chris Simms is coming of age and so is the Cadillac. But the defense looks, tired, old and slow. Secondary? What secondary?

The days of winning with offense have officially ended. Poor young Simms will learn a nasty lesson this Sunday when the Bears eat him, and the rest of the offense, up! Hold on tight, Bucs fans, your Cinderella pumpkin of a season is about to explode! Awful defense plus suspect offense against the Bears is a the perfect mixture for a loss. Good luck next year!

Hey Guys:
Did anyone notice the 3 or 4 yard run by Cadillac(I believe in the 1st Qtr) that had a Falcon player laying on top of Cadillac holding his arms down so he couldn’t up, AND the rookie player(Don’t know his name) put his hand inside Cadillac’s helmet, apparently trying to gouge William’s eyes?
Does the NFL check tapes on ‘dirty’ plays like this one, or does a team have to complain first? I still can’t believe the ‘close-up’ shot that FOX got of the ‘retaliation’.
Thanks for your time.

Hope you Bucs fans enjoy your win over the overated Falcons because next Sunday my Chicago Bears will have Simms looking up at the Florida sun from the ground and Cadillac will need a tune-up after the Bears defense pounds him all day. Bears win 21 - 6 !

Just wanted to chime in with (Erik, Sanford, Fl on 11/21 at 11:27 AM)
I had to cut the sound off a few times also. It was ridiculous. Vick this Vick that.... it hurt them to say somthing good about Tampa.
The guy is a great player. Love to watch him work (against anyone than the Bucs) but those guys were really sickening.
Great game though!!! Drop Fox network!!

High priced individual talent will never beat a good TEAM. Ego’s like Owens and Johnson will create more problems than solve, just look at Bucs record last year and the Eagles current situation! Mike Alstott on the other hand has been ready willing and when able—to play, and if I remember reworked his contract to play for Gruden and the Bucs. He is what I call a TEAM player, the O line loves to block for him and is starting to enjoy driving the Cadi. If he doesn’t get his head blown out of proportion, he too could be a great team player. Gruden is overrated and I am still waiting to see this “Coach ?†use his talent/TEAM to their potential!

Transplanted Floridian living in New England. Can’t wait for December 17th, got tickets to see the Bucs vs. Pats. I will be there in full Buc garb rooting them on. Don’t know why all of sudden our DB’s can’t cover. 3 weeks in a row now, very avg. pocket passers have had their way with WR’s in the Tampa 2. It’s one thing to drop off a receiver to the safety if another receiver is in their zone, but it seems as though they let them by with no one else to cover, why??

Forget the stats, forget the nay-sayers a win is a win. True enough tampa bay has a long way to go, but they have come a long way (just two games ago) and are improving before our eyes. Way to go Chris Simms, the a-train never derails and look at those wheels on that cadillac. Lets get to the playoffs.

I am so glad I decided to get Sunday Ticket after moving up here from Tampa earlier this year. It has been fantastic watching the Bucs transformation from last year’s 5-11 team to a playoff contender again. I’m a bit miffed with the defense right now, but a win is a win and it was very much needed division win to boot.
Go Bucs!

One or two more wins and the “die hard “ fans we lost after two bad seasons will be back. 7-9 used to be a winning season in Tampa but at least you knew who the fans were. Go Bucs!

First, I think we all need to thumb our noses at the overpaid analysts, commentators, and sports writers who consistently choose other teams over the Bucs. Now, a question: Aren’t sports commentators supposed to analyze the game. Albert and Baldinger with Glazer are the biggest SUCK UPS I have ever had the displeasure of having to listen to. I actually had to mute my TV because these boneheads were so biased it wasnt funny. Arent these “National” commentators supposed to be unbiased and analyze the game. Jeesh. Case in point The Almight Vick fumbles the ball that essentially clinches the Bucs win. Commentator response: “That was all Dunn’s fault, Vick didn’t even see him coming”. Umm, last I checked, the QB should hold on to the ball. Did anyone else notice when Vick is under pressure he is a sub-par quarterback? It is amazing to once again see the Offense carry the Defense, whats next? Cats and Dogs living together? Thanks for a great game!

Like the announcer stated, I didn’t know that a 245lb man could fly....way to go again Alstott. A win on the road for Chris Simms,. awesome job....he is stepping up to be quite the quarterback. At this rate, we could take the NFC South. Keep it up BUCS.

HEY..HEY..TAMPA BAY!! Wow, what a gritty performance and a HUGE road win in the division. Chris Simms showed alot of poise and made some crucial plays driving the Bucs down the field with 7 plus minutes to go in the game. Looks like Cadillac is getting back on track and the defense came up big with the turnover late in the game. Besides being in the hunt for the division lead, you now are in full command in the wildcard race: you’re 3 games up on Washington, Philly and St. Louis and you’ve beaten Atlanta and still have a home game against them. Next up...a huge home game against THE MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY...BE LOUD!!

It’s hard to believe but facts are facts: the Bucs are 7 and 3. Another good job all the way around. Smart coaching decisions, decent offense, decent defense. The defense is not as good as it needs to be. Too many points are being given up. If the division remains tight, this could be a critical factor down the road. Before that, though, the Bucs really need to step up during the remaining part of this regular season. Will a 10 and 6 regular season record be enough? We’ll know by Christmas Eve.

Wow - the Bucs pulled off another “W” by coming from behind. Outstanding. It was a good offensive show against a mediocre defense. Next week against the Bears will require exponentially more offense against the extremely potent defensive Bears. The Bucs will have to play absolutely mistake free in order to get a win. Their defense is in need of an overhaul and should not take the Bears’ offensive squad lightly as T Jones (we know him) and M Muhammad are definitely capable of producing big plays. The key to success will be how well the Bucs offensive line can allow Simms to stay on his feet, and open holes in an incredibly impenetrable defense. The Bears are no joke and Bucs will have to raise their level of play next week if they expect a win.

Way to go Bucs.......Glad I got to see it in person. The black and white print will do no justice for the picture that was painted. The Bucs looked and played like a team possessed. My hat’s off to the entire team, keep moving forward....don’t look back. LET’S GO BUCS.....
P.S. I’ll see you in Tampa in Dec.....

I am enjoying this years Bucs season more than any I can ever remember. Watching Chris Simms develop right before your eyes is so special. It isn’t often that fans ever get the opportunity to witness such a thing. I just hope Gruden will keep him healthy with continued protection because I’m afraid he can’t take NFL-sized hits and complete a 16-game schedule. We need to remain focused on our offensive line if we are going to continue in these offensive shoot outs.
P.S. Thank you Mr. Derrick Brooks for the W in ATL. You are the greatest Buc LB of all time.

A HUGE win in the division for the Bucs. Especially sweet to force resepct from the media that never gives us any. Cadillac is fresh and running hard, Alstott was his usual reliable self and Chris Simms is emerging as this team’s QB for the long haul. Matt Bryant has been a godsend, but the defense needs to get back to the way they were playing earlier this season. If we can match the recent offense with the earlier defense, this team will be unbeatable and a NFC South title will be theirs. Kudos Bucs and let’s keep it going against Chicago next Sunday.

Okay, okay, I have heard it all week from these Pats fans here saying my Bucs are gonna get spanked by Chicagos defense...Hey, could happen, matter of fact, I like it when everyone counts Tampa Bay out, as it usually comes back to bite you in the end, but remember this...the Tampa Bay offense practices against a top rated defense daily, and they have for the past several years, so, if there is any team out there that has a better than average chance to beat the Bears, well my friends, it has to be the Bucs…
